World Poetry Day is March 21, 2009 as declared by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). In observation, the Callaloo Poets are inviting students ages 5 through 16 to enter a poetry competition under the theme “How Can I Make the Community a Better Place”.
Students are invited to submit their original poems legibly on letter-sized paper with their name, school and telephone number to the UNESCO office in Road Town by Thursday, March 19, 2009.
Poems should not exceed 50 lines and will be judged for originality, creativity and adherence to the theme. Please note that only one poem per student will be accepted.
The winners will be officially announced and presented their prizes at the Callaloo Poets’ monthly poetry reading on March 21, 2009 themed “From Inspiration to Creation – The Power of Poetry”. For more info, please call 441-3509 or 441-8422.
