Holders & Lion Castle sole venues for Cheshire 2009 Polo Tour - Courtesy Garage, new Sponsor, to assist transport logistics

At the luscious and palatial grounds of the Fairmont Royal Pavilion, a blogger (ahem) and members of the media were witness to the news of the latest tour from UK's Cheshire Polo Club who's here once again. Few could be happier than Signature Magazine's Sassie Stears, whose team won the Battle of the Sexes last year at Holders.

Jacob Hassid, head honcho for DI-Barbados, was also happy to once again be a co-sponsor for the chukkas to be held exclusively at Holders and Lion Castle this year. Mr Hassid revealed the Cheshire retinue consists of 80 people, these are 80 additional members of Barbados tourism stock in the island apart from the Barmy Army here for cricket!

With Canadian and Indian teams here recently, the DI-Barbados director enthused, this is a small example of what polo can do for Barbados' tourism base. Mr Hassid also welcomed Courtesy Garage as a new sponsor to the series which starts Sunday 1st March at "the Mekka" of Bajan Chukkas, Holders!

For watch fans - Breitling, Bvlgari and Piaget will be the specialties on display via the charming staffers of DI-Barbados at each chukka.

Sales Manager of Royal Pavilion, Catherine Mapp, indicated that her occupancy figures showed UK visitors have increased from last year to this year for a stay to coincide with polo and her resort plans to maximise on this trend by encouraging the guests to remain after matches are played through.

Howard Taylor, Chairman of the Cheshire Polo Club, said part of the team apart from son Oliver and daughter Lucy would be Michael Meenaghan once again and Cristian Chavez from Spain (his handicap is 3, rather good), he enjoys working with his family and chums since it embodies the basic spirit of camaraderie in the whole game.

Sunday's featured chukkas at Holders will be an 8 goal match with Lucy at #1, Chavez #2, Oli at third and dad Howard rounds up at 4. The final on March 8th will be a 10-goal match.

Samuel Gaston - Courtesy's Regional Product Manager stated that Nissan and Fiat would be the brands touted during the series and in fact, four cars will be on loan to Cheshire to help transport players and equipment.

Schedule so far for the first leg of the Cheshire Polo Tour? (Battle Of The Sexes and Mexico legs will be revealed soon)

Sunday 1 March: Holders

Tuesday 3 March: Lion Castle

Thursday 5 March: Holders

Sunday 8 March: Lion Castle (I understand there are many surprises in store for the entertainment, hush-hush so far)
