These Boots are made for Walkin': Vincy to sojourn Barbados on foot for charity

I've heard of thinking on your feet, I've also known a few sleepless nights in my life - but to go for over a week on your feet AND without dozing?

This is what a dude from St Vincent is planning to do from next month, as in June, and the cause is a worthy one; establishing a Children's Hospital in ye olde Hairoun (according to Caribbean Net News), but the early stages of this Herculean task has its basis right here -

The Barbados walk takes off on Saturday, June 7 at 5:00 AM. It will start at Oistins, moving along south coast road to Bridgetown, then on to the Spring Garden Highway, along University Roundabout, through Blackrock, Green Hill, Eagle Hall, Baxters Road, back to Bridgetown (Lower Green Bus Stand), to Vincy Town, Collymore Rock, Sergeants Village, Vauxhall and ending at the Sheraton Centre.

The organisers are inviting Barbadians, in particular children, and other walking enthusiasts to join them along the route. The Rotary Clubs of Barbados [as well as] Cable & Wireless are among the institutions that will provide support on the ground for this initiative.

'Ole George' does not plan to rest on his laurels for too long, either, for soon thereafter he heads North -

The main fundraising activity is a series of sponsored walks by Vincentian walking legend, Earl Ole George’ Daniel and his walking partner, Joel Butcher. The walks are taking place at various locations on mainland St. Vincent - Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Grenada, St. Lucia, Barbados, with the major walk in North America, from New York to Toronto.

The North America walk will require Daniel and Butcher to walk for approximately eight days without sleep. Rotary Club and its partners are also facilitating the entering of this record in the Guinness Book of World Records. The two, came close to creating this record in Jamaica some two years ago.

Mr Daniel was inspired by a definite lack in young medical care not only in SVG, but through the whole region, and he decided to do something to change that -

Several Caribbean children have already benefited under the project. The establishment of a hospital in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will ensure that the much needed medical services will be available in the region.

BLOOMING GOOD TIME IN UK - David Kirton Live at Chelsea Flower Show

"Now, this is what Chelsea is all about, some international flair … This is Barbados!" were the words overheard as the unidentified commentator of a wandering film crew came upon the Barbados Horticultural Society's display at the 2008 Chelsea Flower Show. He had no idea that "This is Barbados" was the actual title of the Barbados display but he knew he liked the modern, organic look and sound of the musician, David Kirton, combined with the myriad of flowers beautifully displayed to represent the varied landscapes of Barbados.

Even before you can see any of the exhibits at Chelsea, you can smell the flowers and plants. At first it's a faint scent of fresh cut grass on the air, then comes the aroma of rolling fields, deep forests, damp moss, streams, flowers and ancient woods. Then, as soon as you walk into the giant marquee, your eyes are treated to a rainbow burst of every colour in nature's spectrum. Amidst all of this carefully arranged, very secure, organized chaos walked two Rastafarian musicians, both dressed in long coats, each with a guitar slung over his shoulder.

Film crews, radio reporters and journalists circled the perimeter to see what was going to happen this year at the Barbados display. Never before had there been a live singer performing at the Chelsea Flower Show, least of all a Rastafarian from the Caribbean - so this was big news. David Kirton performed a selection of music from all three of his albums, including Green Camouflage, Time for change and Free to Fly, as well as several songs yet to be released. The BBC, Australian Television, CNN, Architectural Digest, The Guardian and Sir George Martin (legendary producer of the Beatles) all took careful note, drawn by the music, flowers and personalities.

At the end of the day Kirton was invited to do a live performance and interview on BBC radio at their on-site radio booth. This live broadcast was carried on numerous regional BBC radio stations as part of their Chelsea coverage. David Kirton was accompanied by Andre Jonson, his musical director/lead guitarist from California. While in London, Kirton also enjoyed other successful showcases, BBC interviews and small club performances.

This combination of organic art disciplines was the brainchild of Keith Miller, of Miller Publishing, endorsed by the Barbados Horticultural Society, Virgin Airlines and The Barbados Tourism Authority, who sponsored the musician's trip to the Chelsea Flower Show.

DIGICEL TAKES LATEST TECHNOLOGY TO WEST INDIES TEAM

The West Indies team had a lesson in the latest mobile technology courtesy of team sponsors Digicel, when they were given the opportunity to upgrade their Sony Ericsson handsets ahead of the second Digicel test against Australia.

The presentation of the SE K850i followed Digicel’s desire that the players and coaching staff should benefit from the company’s latest mobile solutions and be able to rely on a range of services and functions to be able to manage their business and personal lives while traveling away from home.

Ramnaresh Sarwan, current captain of the West Indies team was thrilled with his new handset commenting: "As cricketers we are away from home for long periods so keeping in contact with all parts of my life is hugely important. Lots of the players send picture messages to friends and family and the picture quality of a 5 mega pixel camera with Cybershot ™ technology on the new Sony Ericsson handset is amazing. I can also listen to music through the MP3 player and keep up to date with news, cricket scores from around the world and other general information through Digicel Live. It's a great toy!"

The Sony Ericsson K850i boasts always-on high speed internet with 3.6Mbit transfer speeds as well as text messaging, picture messaging, music and email. The K850i is Digicel Live enabled allowing the downloading of ringtones, games and screen savers.

Kieran Foley, Head of Group Sponsorship for Digicel, says: "As sponsors of the Windies we are committed to providing the players and coaching staff with the latest telecommunications equipment so that they can efficiently handle all aspects of their business and personal lives while focusing on their cricket performance”.

Digicel also provided for the first time ever free high speed wireless internet at the media center of Sabina Park during the first test of the Digicel Home Series against Australia. The company to date has expanded into wireless broadband in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands in its goal to become a full service wireless provider across the region.

The Digicel Home Series 2008 against Australia will continue until July 5th taking place in Jamaica, Antigua, Barbados, St Vincent, Grenada and St Kitts. Full match schedules and daily news updates and images are available on Digicel Cricket's website.

Beach Beautification by CARE of Barbados - Another exercise in July

Andrew Simpson is grateful for the twenty volunteers who picked up 60 + bags (more than filling the truck loaned by Yorkshire Nurseries) from miles of beach on the east coast on Sunday 18th May.

Peter Bynoe was the volume leader with all his bags (20 +) filled and deposited on the roadside for easy collection. He then passed on his treasure capsule worth $ 20 to Ruth Hoad's son Ted who worked on the Morgan Lewis stretch. What a guy! Big up Counterpart Caribbean at the Future Centre and The Living Room who were well represented.

A special thanks to Tom Hinds who represented Naniki with a generous batch of "coconut bakes" enjoyed with fresh lemonade & mauby after the event compliments The American Ambassador's Democracy Fund (the main sponsors of the effort) which has also covered the cost of bags, tools, litter bins and refreshments until the end of the year.

Sponsors of ongoing activities are needed as are volunteers willing to champion new environmental initiatives.

There are so many areas which need cleaning and beautification, not to mention education & public awareness to prevent degradation in the first place. We have lots of ideas for sustainability but lack necessary resources to implement.

Andrew's scheduled another effort on July 12th at Bathsheba / Soup Bowl. To meet on the train line by High Rock at sunup.

Help CARE for Barbados. Don't Litter (waste stays in our natural environment or is washed into the coastal zone)

2ND ANNUAL STAGING OF CUREFEST PUT ON HOLD

Due to the overwhelming demand for Jah Cure in Europe, the second annual staging of the CureFest Festival slated for this summer has been put on hold. Last year, Danger Promotions in association with Brass Gate and Iyah Cure Promotions presented what was considered to be one of the best shows ever held on the western side of the island. Since the staging of CureFest in October 2007, Jah Cure's career has grown by leaps and bounds and for the last six months Cure has been touring consistently.

Delmar Drummond, CEO Danger Promotions, explains the decision: "The demand for Jah Cure is extremely high right now. So many promoters from all over the world have been requesting him to perform. We decided to venture to Europe to give him more exposure there. Unfortunately the dates of the Europe tour coincide with the dates proposed for CureFest 2008. We are hoping that we still may be able to host CureFest after the Europe tour but we cannot be sure just yet. If not, we will definitely schedule it for next year as we are committed to making CureFest a calendar event in Jamaica. We apologize for all Cure fans who looked forward to CureFest this year."

CureFest 2007 was the 3-day event staged between Friday October 12 and Sunday October 14, and began with Jah Cure's birthday celebration dubbed Reflections at the Starfish Hotel. This was followed by 45 Cure's on Saturday October 13 at Pier 1, Montego Bay where Radio DJ's and sound systems came out to show their support. The event climaxed with the Longing For concert at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium on Sunday, October 14 where Jah Cure performed a full set for the 1st time in Jamaica in 8 years. Over 20,000 fans attended the CureFest celebrations over the three days and the promoters and Jah Cure himself are still thankful to all his fans that came out to make the event a success.

Jamaican fans need not be disappointed however, as Jah Cure will perform on Sumfest Reggae Night, Friday July 18 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Jah Cure's presence as one of the headliners on Sumfest 2008 is further validation of his veritable talent and immense popularity not only locally but internationally as well.

This June, Jah Cure will begin his first full European Tour. This will be the biggest tour Jah Cure has done to-date and will take him to all the major cities in Europe including states in Scandinavia. Based on the overwhelming number of request for Jah Cure to perform in Europe it was felt that the time was right for a major tour on that side of the world and the decision was made to postpone CureFest. The promoters of CureFest are assuring fans that when CureFest returns it will be bigger and better than its inaugural staging.

Cultural drummers and dancers attend Antigua Dance Academy Festival

Members of two cultural groups on Nevis will benefit from a number of workshops in Antigua at the bi-annual Antigua Dance, Drum and Drama Festival hosted by the Antigua Dance Academy.

The I-Africana Drummers and the Rhythm Dance Theater left Nevis earlier this week to attend an ongoing three day festival, which concluded over the weekend.

Special Advisor to the Nevis Island Administration in Culture Mr. Halsted "Sootie" Byron who also heads the drumming group, told the Department of Information that his group would perform some drumming, while the dance group would perform a number of Caribbean and African pieces but most of all would benefit from the experience.

Most importantly, some of the members of the dance and drumming groups will be attending workshops in the areas of dance and drums and I think that is a good opportunity for those young men who have not had much exposure before.

We just have two persons … [who] have had some exposure but the others would be glad to meet and interact with drummers from all over the Caribbean also of course to learn as much as possible and certainly the dancers would be glad for the opportunity as well. We look forward to learning a lot and be able to pass on that knowledge to young people in Nevis when we return,” he said.

The group is expected to return to Nevis within a fortnight.

Poltergeisten Und Zeitgeisten Uber Alles? More Germans Ask For Exorcisms

You'd figure that places like Haiti, Brazil and even Jamaica may have rampant cases of magic gone wild like what the Mighty Sparrow was worried about in "Melda/Obeah Wedding", but it appears that certain Europeans are more concerned according to overseas news-blog NewsBlaze -

National Catholic authorities admit that the number of Germans asking for exorcism is rising. The problem was underlined by a German radio show that recently interviewed several priests and, live, reported their practices of expelling evil spirits from possessed people. One exorcist, Father Joerg Mueller, told a journalist that only last year he had helped over 350 Germans. "They hear the voices of demons; they see ghosts or shadows or destroy crucifixions at night, without being able to remember anything the next day," the British Daily Telegraph quotes him.

It doesn't mean, however, that Germans are especially prone to demons. In most cases, advise priests, instead of an exorcist people should contact a psychiatrist as their problems derive from mental breakdowns rather than possession by the devil. Father Mueller said that, popularized by Hollywood movies, exorcism has become perceived as an easy and quick way to heal the mind and soul. "Therapy hasn't worked for them; they want exorcism - a prayer that can free them," he said, adding that only one in ten who seek his help qualifies for exorcism.

It seems these real-life cases were what led people to make "The Exorcism of Emily Rose," however, bear in mind in the true story - the woman did not get out alive! The court implied she kind of 'possessed' herself in a weird version of metaphysical hypochondria?

SNAIL HUNT MOVES TO ST. JOSEPH - TOWN HALL MEETING FOR LAMMINGS RESIDENTS FRIDAY

Residents of Lammings, St. Joseph, and its environs, are being invited to a Town Hall Meeting to discuss the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s control programme for the Giant African Snail, this Friday, May 30, at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Bernard’s Primary School.

According to Entomologist, Brett Taylor, the meeting is also aimed at soliciting residents’ support for the proposed snail collection exercise in their area, which is slated to take place at 3:00 a.m. the following morning. The assembly point for the snail hunt is also St. Bernard’s.

The community snail hunts, as they are called, are part of a comprehensive effort being staged by the Ministry, in collaboration with District Emergency Organisations and other partners, to rid the island of the Giant African Snail.

Residents of Lammings are being encouraged to come out in their numbers to assist in ridding the island of this dangerous pest.

Participants are also reminded to walk with their gloves, boots, raincoats, buckets with covers and torchlights, among other requirements.

“We will be collecting snails again and burning them. In fact, we will be setting up incinerators in these areas, so that they can be immediately destroyed,” Mr. Taylor said.

In an effort to further curb the spread of this pest, the Ministry has also designated a snail team, whose function is to conduct daily investigations and baitings in districts across the island.

The next snail collection exercise is slated to take place on Saturday, May 31. Residents of Lammings and the environs are asked to assemble at the St. Bernard’s Primary School at 3:00 a.m. for the event.

JAH CURE & JNR REID TO SHOOT "HOT LONG TIME" - Music Video will be sizzling with special effects and imagery mimicking the songs lyrics

Danger Zone continues to blaze a trail, setting new trends and taking dancehall and reggae music to new frontiers. Danger Zone is currently making preparations to shoot the video for Hot Long Time which features Junior Reid and Jah Cure. The Hot Long Time video is the next step for Junior Reid coming off his award for most improved entertainer at the recently held 2008 IRAWMA Awards.

Hot Long Time was produced by Steve "Rock Star" Morales for SoBe Entertainment; Morales is famous for his work on Pop Bottles by Lil Wayne and Birdman and also has production credits on songs by Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, Young Jeezy, Fabolous, Big Pun, Fat Joe, and Mario to name a few. Indeed Steve Morales is as good as they come and his production work on the Hot Long Time track is outstanding.

Hot Long Time is new ground for Jah Cure who is most known for his culturally relevant reggae tunes. This is also the first time Jah Cure and Junior Reid are teaming up on a song and based on the final product won't be the last.

"It's been years I have wanted to work with Junior Reid and this is a manifestation of what we have been doing since he joined the Danger Zone/ SoBe Entertainment family," Jah Cure, Danger Zone/SoBe Entertainment Artiste observed, "I feel very good about the song and I hope the fans will like it as well. We tried something different on this track as there is no limitation to the music and we have always tried to work with different genres to take our music to the world."

The song Hot Long Time features Jah Cure's signature voice overlaid on a tight Hip Hop beat sprinkled with an essence of reggae. Junior Reid presents himself as a relevant artiste "ahead of the time" bringing fans back to a period when he was king and reinforcing the reason he is in such high demand internationally.

"Working with Jah Cure is a blessing as he is one of the most inspired artistes out there right now," Junior Reid, Danger Zone/SoBe Entertainment Artiste enthused, "Hot Long Time is a continuation of the work I have been doing with SoBe Entertainment and Danger Zone and there is much more to come."

The video for the song Hot Long Time will be directed by Jay-Will who just completed filming Jah Cure's last video Flyin High which featured American rapper and Sobe Entertainment CEO, Stack$. The Flyin High video was premiered on '420': International Herb Day (April 20, 2008) on WorldStarHipHop.com and broke the record with 50,000 views in 7 hours and 140,000 in 19 hours.

Jay-Will will also soon be filming Green Grass and Journey; both recent singles done by Jah Cure.

"It's always a pleasure to work with Danger Zone and SoBe Entertainment," Jay Will, Video Director stated, "The alliance is an ongoing relationship and I am presently working on a SoBe infomercial for Stack$ and some other projects with Jah Cure. The Hot Long Time video will be sizzling with special effects and imagery mimicking the songs lyrics. This is my first video with junior Reid and I feel privileged working with a legend like him and Jah Cure who is a legend in the making."

The Hot Long Time video will be filmed between May 30 and June 4 throughout Jamaica and its release will be a good launching pad for Jah Cure's European tour which begins in July.

Obskewer, Deadbeats and Mini-Burgers: Life along the eateries of Barbados' South Coast

Thanks to Living In Barbados, I now know that there seems to be a club of deadbeats outstanding for high credit bills run up at various institutes along Bim's southern coastline, you mean to say there is some kind of pride in owing and not paying?

Martyn indicated that the report is true, and that over B$10,000 is outstanding. He has decided that rather than name and shame to start discussing with other bars and restaurants on the south and west Coast and to circulate the names of the debtors between them. He is sure that many of the same names are going to pop up. He has also been well informed that many of the culprits have formed a "Boycott the Blue Bench" group, wishing that the establishment suffers the ultimate ill-fate of closing down. Some even boast of owing other bars for well over a year and have no intention of paying their debts. Martyn reports that the circulation of the list has created quite a stir, both whipping up support and drawing wrath, in the middle is the bar with a low customer count at the worst time of the year.

I know how convenient it is to run up a tab with a favoured restaurant, but I also know that I am getting credit, and that prompt payment is essential to help that enterprise stay in business. It's the first time that I have come across this idea of "doing a runner" and not paying for meals.

However, Martyn then went on to discuss a different matter, that is further reaching, that of how small enterprises such as his are coping with increased costs. His restaurant faces a huge challenge with the price increases for flour, gasolene, rice, beef, rum and most everything else and soon to be chicken. He decided that rather than pass the price increases on to the customer at this time that Ackee Tree rotis, which are supposed to be 1lb should be that instead of the near 2lb version that was served before. Now the customer is getting that which is advertised. But wait. Now the complaints are abound that the rotis have gotten small and the prices have gone up. How do we win? he asks. Should he just pass on the price increases and put more pressure on the customer or stick to our advertised product.

He mentions that BS&T, which boast of million in profits is so price sensitive it has already increased the price of milk and other sundry items that has caused the pressure on the wider public. One would think that they are the ones who could absorb the increases for a bit longer than they have. It is indeed a challenge.

I may have my own views on the Ackee Tree, but I wish them well on tracking the perps!

The night Terry Mayers left this coil, I went to commiserate with former colleagues but got sidetracked - I ended up at Lucky Horseshoe in Worthing. Have you seen the new mural on the side of their building from Malibu? It is so classy, "Have you got your island on?"

LH-Worthing have karaoke on Wednesdays, I had a lot of fun - which I needed that night! I tried their mini-burgers; these are small patties with a snip of cheese and a dab of yellow mustard. I was reminded some reason of White Castle in the USA, they are quick to prepare and serve and very more-ish too! What is good that they are $20 or under, no digging of the pocket if you on a binge!

Lucky Horseshoe has always been tops in service, I know there are many who go for their bandits or the football matches, but their menu is highly underrated. Recently, they added to their repertoire - breaded fish sticks (very nice, comparable to Carib Beach Bar's), breaded pickles (yet to try those) and other starters/appetisers or entrees available. Prices cool, food decent and staff there for you - plus sports and music videos, get to it!

There is a new obscure place in Oistins where I am yet to experience their cuisine, but I kept getting notices in Facebook, I saw their nightlife is rather decent for a Friday night... So I swung over by Surfer's Cafe which is near Super Centre and is also known as "Obskewer" which was spelt that way on purpose, since it seems not well known they have kebabs as well!

I passed in one Friday when Garvie was entertaining the crowd with his usual stuff like Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven," plus guest appearances from Jay and Kevin. Jay is adding oldies to his list of songs to regale folk - he actually did a decent version of Ray Charles' "Hit The Road, Jack" while Kevin did his Fray pastiche.

So a scrutiny of the menu of "Obskewer" is in the cards, folks, your friendly neighbourhood restaurant critic will let you know and if you are one of those fancy places? Remember, I have a SMALL budget - so if I eat for free I still wanna be able to review in a totally honest manner... Yup, bold am I not? Not only asking for a freeness, but possibly kicking you in the shins, en't that what life is all about? LMAO!

YOUTH CRICKETERS ARE PART OF THE ACTION AT DIGICEL HOME SERIES - U19 Cricketers gain valuable experience with Digicel as they interact with Sr Players

Digicel, proud sponsor of West Indies Cricket, is giving 54 youth cricketers across nine countries valuable work experience, as they are employed to support Digicel on the grounds during the Digicel Home Series 2008.

As Digicel’s event management team hires six young cricketers in each country, these aspiring cricketers get to see the action up close and interact with the players as they help brand the stadium, distribute promotional items and assist with various activities during the Digicel Home Series.

Dennis Bulli, 21 years old and a Jamaica fast bowler for Kensington Cricket Club, who Digicel has hired for the past three years in Sabina Park, had the opportunity to bowl to the West Indies team in nets during their practice sessions over the last week. Says Bulli when asked about his experience of working or Digicel at Sabina Park, “It’s fun, and the money is good!

Our youth cricket employment programme started in 2005 and has been a huge success. We are pleased that we are able to offer these young men an opportunity to see West Indies cricket up close, meet the cricketers and earn some money at the same time,” said Ciara Ryan, Digicel Group Sponsorship Manager. “The guys are well-mannered, hardworking and really enjoy the opportunity to work at cricket.”

The Digicel Home Series 2008 is 19 year-old Rasheed Outar’s first time working with the Digicel event management team. “I’m enjoying working with the other youth cricketers. Working at the matches is very different from just watching, and I like the new perspective.”

All of the boys play club cricket and one of them, Shacya Thomas, was a member of the West Indies Under-19 team that recently toured in Malaysia.

Youth cricketers will also be employed throughout the remainder of the Series in Antigua, Barbados, St. Vincent, Grenada and St. Kitts.

KID MONTH FOR BARBADIANS - BAJAN CLERIC OBJECTS TO SLANG: Mothers give birth to children

I am sure you have heard of the Reverend Buddy Larrier of the AME Church who sent a letter to the media objecting to a phrase that has been used for so long.

In fact, using another word from not that long ago, there were some old-time Barbadians who said using the word
BAJAN was as as bad as saying N***ER! (BTW: I believe that like I believe the Independence Arch is for Sale)

There is a claim it was a derogatory phrase invented by Trini's (
more slang in your nen-nen) during WW 2, and therefore should never be uttered - that sounds as ridiculous as the alleged origin of picnic which is false, there are NO racial connotations to it, none whatsoever - anyone who believes that is retarded themselves!

Anyhow, here is the letter where he objects to any word for young humans except children - BTW; I heard this argument since I was a pup/cub/knee-high to a grasshopper, etc.

Please allow me the opportunity to voice my concern as to some of the messages we are sending our children during Child Month. On Mother’s Day last as my church Allen’s Temple African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church joined in the celebrations of appreciating mothers, I reflected deeply on my mother, now deceased, as my birth date, hers and my grandmother fell on the same date. After church I listened with interest to a radio interview with Alison Hinds about the joy and challenges of motherhood. It concerned me greatly that throughout the interview not once did I hear her used the word children, she constantly refer to our children as kids.

The disgust in this growing trend of referring to our children as kids appear to have had a deeper affect on me during Child Month. Mothers give birth to children, animals give birth to kids. Not so long ago our children were called, cubs and pups. We are commemorating the bicentenary of the acts that led to be abolition of slavery. It therefore concerns even more when teachers and leaders in our community constantly refer to our children as kids. On Sunday nights the presenter of Caribbean Cuisine – Duelling Chef, Mr. Peter Edey would only refer to the young people in that competition as kids, much in the same way as Alison Hinds in her interview. Are we totally unaware of the subliminal messages being sent to the children? If you continuously call a child a fool sooner or later he/she would act foolishly. If we get into the habit of referring to our children as kids sooner or later they would behave as animals.

My message to parents during the remaining days of Child Month is to stop referring to your child as a kid, and to children do not allow anyone, even your parents to call you a kid, your mother gave birth to a child. If it is unthinkable to call the offspring of a goat a child, why call our children kids!

I would appreciate if someone could answer the following three questions; who introduced the term kids? When was the term introduced? Why was it introduced?

May we have a successful Child Month.

Rev. Buddy Larrier
Reverend Larrier, your argument is so stupid I am not sure why I even bothered to waste space except to punch holes in your dumb dispute. You have a problem with Alison Hinds? Then stop staring at she bumper, that is why you were listening for kids as you probably were thinking what could be done with her bumper!

Go on Google, look up either word... children or kids - there are so many noble organisations, black or white, UK or USA, out there and they refer to unformed adults as KIDS.

I was called a pup or cub, it is known as parallels of language - which is perfectly normal in the evolution of words and their use over the ages.

Nice in the 14th century meant you were retarded or worse and a duel would not be thought out of line, nice nowadays is abused and some people don't take kindly to using that word nicely or not!

Twisting it the other way around, yes, I have called my pets my children - if you research this blog you'll find I called two of them my sons. People who have a higher intellect have such a regard for their pets, that they tend to look at them as another member of the family! Like the Egyptians did thousands of years ago, but then cats never forgot, eh? LOL

So what is your beef, man? Grow up - the English lingo did a long time ago!
Years ago, many folk would be unaware what is a 1: McJob, or 2: a jpeg, to 3a: upload or 3b: download files and so forth - should we go back to phrases like 1: low-paying job, 2: digital photograph and 3a & 3b: sending large streams of data between USB ports of computers utilising the services of the internet?

The whole point of my contention is that language like everything else evolves and you just have to accept it. Yes, as stated before I believe in Creation but via Evolution - there was not Adam & Eve but Australopithecus and Cro-Magnon, so tek dah - because God still had a hand in that too, ok?

BLOGGER STRIKES BLOW FOR BCC ART & LAST LEG FOR DIGITAL GALLERY IN QUEEN'S PARK

You always need to check dead-tree editions of Nation and Advocate, don't rely on the internet version alone, as a lot can be missed! Happened to take a glance at the Friday 16 May edition of the Weekend Nation and tucked away in the top right corner of page 4 is a notice...

Which states that In-Transit at the Barbados Community College was extended for another three days! Can it be? Did not this very blog express disgust that speeches were long and the displays were so short? As in, wrong way around?

The viewings ran from 9:00 in the morning to nine in the evening at Morningside wing of BCC. Now the show has come and gone, I want for future artists pursuing Bachelor of Fine Arts & Graphic Design to learn this...

Do not sell your birthright for a mess of pottage! I understand BCC expected those showing at Morningside to contribute 20% of any sales - and they learned this on the night of the show? I would purposely wait until after the show and have the work at my home before a dollar change hands.

Most Universities and Colleges have the decency to warn you at the start of a semester that any works sold on their premises during your stay can incur an agents' fee of say, 7 to 15 per cent, not really above or below that - but at least you know what to expect and you're not blindsided the night of your debut exhibition!

Tut-tut, BCC, praise for adding to the show - but a big-able cuff for trying to jook out the students' eye without due warning!

I was to have dealt with another topic for ages, but the death of a good friend & colleague sent everything for a loop - I make amends now and hope that significant folks visit and are suitably impressed...

I refer to "Sign Of The Times" at Queens' Park Gallery, curated by Nerys Rudder, it is the 22nd show from the National Art Gallery Council with 14 artists and a catalogue - appropriately enough - cut onto DVD via local digital entity, vividview (who did work with Kite last year).

The featured speaker was Ricardo Redman, a teacher at BCC's Fine Arts division as well as founder of Acutevision (former webmaster of CBC's website), a web design company.

In his view, digital art is a medium and not a process - it is technology that makes it easier for users to capture and disseminate moments via photographs, videos and other cybernetic tools.

Ricardo added this makes a contributor to Facebook, or the designer of a new wallpaper or screen-saver or ringtone for a mobile an artist without being aware of it.

He does not like the fact even in this day and age when everyone wants posters and similar items to appear slick and have a "WOW" effect, that some students may lose half a point or mark for using digital to create the very effect folk desired!

If people hold too long to given methods then they'll lose sight of where changes have evolved - podcasts, blogs, or even text messages are all mediums of expression to create new forms of art that those too static to see will lose track of in the end.

Rob Leyshon, Will Cummins, plus Ewan & Arthur Atkinson all lent their works to the show which runs until the end of May.

Bill Grace uses digital video to run a moving version of his ubiquitous mandalas; Sheena Rose also had a video on display of her dream where a dog drove the car; Neil Sorhaindo showed one of his earliest works examining what really is it that makes for normal in a world that is also allegedly SANE?

Deborah's Tattoo, Heart Man and Khalil Goodman's altered selves are all intriguing - it begs the question if digital technology is the forerunner of the Tiers Of Worlds that Philip Jose Farmer
hinted at so long ago?

Barbadian Media Personality launches charity in UK to assist folk at home

When Star Radio was in existence, the inert radio boxes at the QEH and some Bajan homes, every Saturday was Auntie Olga's "Children's Party - Pageant Of Youth" from about nine until ten or longer. Sometimes I thought Olga was a bit rough or patronising of the kids others who did not seem so "talented" she let drone on for ever so long and I'd wonder why...

Two of the characters were Granny and George, both played by Carson Small, his talent was not limited to voice characters but also finding a physically challenged person or issue to highlight in "Far & Wide," a programme which I believe is still running on the Starcom Network (Carson himself endures visual challenges from day to day and brushes it aside like Barack Obama's shoulder).

Well, Carson has indeed gone far and wide - all the way to a Brit town which has twinned with Speightstown - Reading, UK... Reading has no rhyme with LEADING more like BEDDING, ok? Anyways, here's what S&B media's Get Reading had to say -

Broadcaster Carson Small, whose brother Peter lives in West Reading, will visit the UK to thank people for donating cash to the charity which he launched.

The Carson Small Foundation, building on Reading’s links to Barbados, was set up to help Bajan people.

Over the years people in Reading – which boasts the largest Bajan population outside of Barbados – have raised thousands of pounds for the charity.

The brothers also have plans to celebrate their actual birthplace as well, as we learned from S&B media's Get Reading -

The charity now has plans to adopt another Bajan hospital, the St Thomas’ District Hospital in St Thomas – where the Small brothers were born.

The foundation, linked with the West Indian Women’s Circle, based at Ansantewa House in Fobney Street, Central Reading, has also raised money for other causes in Barbados and Britain.

We give money anywhere – to anyone who needs it,” said Mr Small, who lives in Chester Street, having left Barbados 44 years ago.

Mr Small, excited about his brother’s imminent arrival, continued: “My brother is coming to the UK to say thank you to the people of Reading and what they have given him.”

In his native Barbados Carson is something of a celebrity. His brother said when he walks down the street people stop him and talk to him – but he uses his fame to raise money.

A Bajan-style meal and dance celebration, to raise cash for the foundation and provide people with the chance to speak to Carson, will take place on Saturday, May 31, at 79 London Street, Katesgrove.

Here's hoping that Starcom Network gives Carson the proper send-off he so richly deserves!

WI Coach likes fighting spirit and effort made towards victory, but improvement must be constant - Team members agree

West Indies head coach John Dyson says that the West Indies team is cultivating an unrelenting fighting spirit which is beginning to pay dividends.

"We go out there to fight no matter what the situation of the match, when we went out to bowl this afternoon we said this is what we need to do, this is how we're going to do it and the two of them (Daren Powell and Fidel Edwards) did it beautifully," Dyson told reporters at the end of the third day of the First Digicel Test at Sabina Park where Australia were left in tatters at 17 for 4 with Powell and Edwards blasting away the top order.

The West Indies, led by Shivnarine Chanderpaul's resolute 118, made 312 in response to Australia's first innings total of 431. Australia has an overall lead of 136 with six wickets in hand.

Dyson was lavish in praise for his fast bowlers and Chanderpaul's defiant century but said that he would also like to see the younger batsmen capitalize on opportunities.

Meanwhile - West Indies pacer Fidel Edwards who picked up a sixth career five wicket haul in the opening Digicel Test against Australia at Sabina Park said that missing main fast bowler Jerome Taylor in the final eleven to a back injury meant he had to put in an extra effort for the team.

"Taylor was a big miss and also Chris (Gayle) and going in (the Test match) without him I thought I really had to put in a big effort not for myself but for the team," Edwards told reporters at the end of the second day's play when he picked up 5 for 104 from 26.5 overs.

"The Australians have a lot of good batters and I had to put in the extra effort to get the guys out," the right arm quick who hustled the batsmen with fiery pace further explained.

"The skipper wants you to do the job and you always find yourself giving a bigger effort as the main strike bowler in the team," said the 26 year old who made his debut at Sabina Park in 2003 against Sri Lanka when he picked up a five wicket haul.

Edwards said he was striving to work toward the team's game plan.

This as debutant West Indies off spinner Amit Jaggernauth said that it was a major challenge to enter into the fray with batsmen the calibre of Ricky Ponting and Michael hussy at the crease but that he thought he acquitted himself well on the opening day of the First Digicel Test at Sabina Park on a pitch which did not offer much assistance to spin bowling.

"Being given the ball with Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey at the crease was a huge challenge, I thought my performance in the end was a decent one, I handled it well," the 24 year old from Trinidad said.

"I didn't look at the individuals names but I tried to bowl at the batsman and tried to work on weaknesses that I saw or try to bowl to the specific areas that was asked by the captain (Ramnaresh Sarwan)," Jaggernauth told reporters at the end of the first day of the first encounter of the three match Digicel Test series.

He said that after an initial assessment he immediately realises that there is a lot of room for improvement.

NEVIS NEEDS TEACHERS NOW: Island state prefers male educators and be ready in 2 months time

A call has been issued for persons to join the teaching fraternity on Nevis. Word came from an official of the Ministry of Human Resources in the Nevis Island Administration. They indicated applications to fill the vacancies in time for the new school year should be in by July to facilitate planning.

Mr. Chesley Manners, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Human Resources, told the Department of Information during an interview, that there were a number of available vacancies that needed to be filled at the secondary and Sixth Form levels.

The Nevis island Administration through is Department of Human Resources is making and appeal for persons who are suitably qualified and interested to serve as teachers for the academic year which begins in September of this year.

The teaching profession is still a noble profession and it offers wonderful opportunities for self development. In addition, it offers stability in terms of employment and there are not many other professions which offer an individual that unique opportunity, to so significantly impact the lives of so many of our youths,” he said.

Mr. Manners said that although the matter of teacher shortage was a problem experienced in and out of the region, Nevis would not give up in its effort to find quality teachers. He made a special appeal to males to join the profession.

We can’t give up and we are going to make every effort to make sure that we have teachers to teach in our schools and so we are sending out this appeal.

You would notice that most of our teachers are females and we really would like to get some males on board so we are making a special appeal to our males, join the profession and make your contribution,” he said.

The Head of Human Resources indicated that the area of most urgent need was at the island’s High Schools and the Sixth Form College in a range of subject areas.

The information that I have would indicate that the more urgent need exists in the high school. At the Sixth Form College we need teachers in Geography, English Caribbean Studies, Communication Studies, Physics, Chemistry, Food and Nutrition.

At the Secondary level we have Agricultural Science, Information Technology, History, Physics and Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics and also Technical and Vocational – Auto Mechanics, Plumbing, Wood Technology, Building Technology, Technical Drawing, Remedial Teaching, Sports and Music,” he said.

For Upper Secondary level the requirement would be a minimum qualification of CAPE or “A” Level certification in the chosen field and at the Sixth Form level an undergraduate degree is also essential to that post.

15 year old cancer survivor join captains for toss - Thanks to Irish telecoms giant

The two captains for the opening Digicel Test match, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Ricky Ponting, were joined by a very special guest at the toss at Sabina Park. Josan Sutherland, a 15 year old cancer survivor from Portmore in Jamaica presented the coin for the toss to home captain Sarwan.

Josan, who attends St Andrew High School for Girls, also sadly lost one of her legs as a result of osteogenic sarcoma cancer which she was diagnosed with when she had just turned a teenager. Her cancer is in a state of remission after several difficult years of chemotherapy and other traumatic treatment.

The inspirational young lady, who was attending her first cricket match compliments of Digicel, is now sitting exams at the fourth form level with the hope of progressing to fifth form and finishing high school. She is also the reigning beauty queen at her high school despite being a below the knee amputee.

At age thirteen, after her leg was amputated, Josan had to learn to walk all over again given her new condition.

The extraordinary young lady who says that her favourite cricketer is Shiv Chanderpaul, is also peer counsellor.

USA busy promoting global & regional interests - Chinese condolences, accepting Cuban changes and lauding Nevis' Admin

Those of you who slip over to Bajan Global Report realise that since Raul Castro replaced El Fidel, things have changed somewhat... Not enough for folk like BFP, but enough for the current President of America to create a special announcement -

Freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom of worship are among the liberties that Americans cherish. Our Nation fully supports the brave people who work to secure these liberties in the countries where they are denied. And on this Day of Solidarity with the Cuban People, we focus our attention on the men and women working to secure freedom, democracy, and human rights for the citizens of Cuba.

For half a century, the Cuban people have suffered under oppressive dictatorship. Under the rule of Fidel and Raul Castro, Cubans have seen their political freedoms denied, their economy reduced to shambles, and their families torn apart. The Cuban people deserve better ‑‑ and the American people stand with them as they work to achieve it.

The United States is rallying the free world to the cause of Cuban liberty. We continue to shine a bright light on the Castro regime's abuses ‑‑ and America calls on the Government of Cuba to immediately and unconditionally release all prisoners of conscience.

We keep these prisoners, their families, and all Cubans in our prayers. Especially on this Day of Solidarity, we ask the Almighty to comfort and strengthen those who suffer under the Castro dictatorship -- and to hasten the day when Cuba's suffering comes to an end.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim May 21, 2008, as A Day of Solidarity with the Cuban People to recognize those who are suffering in Cuba, especially Cuba's prisoners of conscience. I call upon the citizens of the United States to mark this observance with appropriate ceremonies and activities that demonstrate America's resolute support for those living under the Castro regime.
This is definitely a landmark statement, and despite China's less than sterling approach on human rights, their main Caribbean envoy has shown true grit of being a good sport by signing Beijing's condolence book; but what good is a book to those trapped in rubble? Even the US are frustrated in providing relief, nevertheless -

The top U.S. envoy to the Eastern Caribbean visited the Chinese Embassy at Golf Club Road, Christ Church where she wrote a message of sympathy and solidarity with the Chinese people.

On behalf of the Government and the People of the United States of America, I would like to extend our most sincere condolences to the People’s Republic of China on this very tragic occasion,” Ambassador Ourisman wrote.

She added: “The United States stands by the people of China as they seek to recover from this natural disaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those individuals and families who have suffered and lost loved ones at this time.”

To the mournful strains of recorded music played by a People’s Liberation Army Band, the Ambassador was shown nearly forty photos on display by Chargé d'Affaires Li Quian. The photos show the scale of the tragedy and the massive relief effort being mounted by the Chinese government and its friends from around the world.
The Ambassador did not stop there, she jetted out of Barbados and paid a visit to St Kitts sister isle, and found all was very good -
During a ceremony to mark the occasion at the Old Manor Hotel recently, Ambassador Ourisman expressed a view that the Nevis Investment Promotion Agency (NIPA) would enable its government to successfully promote and coordinate investments.

I wish to congratulate you Premier Parry on the launch of NIPA. This new body will enable your island’s Administration to better promote and to coordinate investments and to create economic opportunities for all of your citizens,” she said.

Mrs. Ourisman noted that the new measures to encourage investment on the island coupled with its new found renewable energy resources would propel Nevis into a new era of prosperity.
I believe that your newly discovered alternative energy resources in the form of geothermal energy, combined with your strong push to open Nevis to high quality foreign investment, will combine to create a new era, a new era of economic growth and job opportunities for all Nevisians,” she said.

The Ambassador described the occasion as one of importance because it had become clear that over the years that the focus of development across the region had moved away from the traditional sectors and had become increasingly focused on international competitiveness and the attraction of foreign investment.

She said St. Kitts and Nevis had been an important regional leader for having charted that bold new course and explained that the measures put in place could only serve to enjoy the benefits of the global trade system.

St. Kitts and Nevis in fact has been an important regional leader in charting that bold new course that ranks 85, quite impressive! In these circumstances, one of the primary challenges which policy decision makers, entrepreneurs and managers face is to device mechanisms that stimulate economic growth, improved productivity and provide employment opportunities to their citizens.
Only through such measures can we make a small island with such a small island economy such as St. Kitts and Nevis to be full participants and enjoy the benefits of the global trade system,” she said.

Mrs. Ourisman said Nevis native son and the USA’s Founding father Alexander Hamilton would have been proud of the steps that the island had taken.

BAN ON UK MEAT PRODUCTS LIFTED - BANGERS & PORK PIES SAFE AGAIN

Commercial importers as well as travellers are now free to import their favourite steaks, bacon and pork sausages from the United Kingdom (UK).

This follows the lifting of a ban which was placed on these products in August of last year, in the wake on an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease there. The ban on beef and beef products, which has been in place since the early 1990s, has also been lifted.

According to Senior Veterinary Officer, Dr. Mark Trotman, Government has, with immediate effect, lifted the restrictions on the commercial importation of all live cattle, pigs, sheep, goats as well as meat and meat products derived from these animals.

This decision comes following a thorough investigation of the measures taken by the United Kingdom to mitigate the risk of transmission of the agent that causes Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy through meat from cattle raised in that country.

Importers may now apply to the Ministry of Agriculture’s Veterinary Services department for permits to import meat and meat products from the UK.

Dr. Trotman has, however, cautioned that: All commercial shipments of live animals and animal products must be accompanied by an Export Health Certificate issued by the UK’s Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA)”.

Additionally, an import permit is also needed for personal (passenger) imports of meat and meat products and these products must be in their original packaging and bear an official inspection mark. Passengers must declare these items upon arrival and present them to the agricultural quarantine inspector for examination.

KPMG JOINS GLOBAL FIGHT - GOES GREEN AT OFFICES GLOBALLY TO TACKLE WARMING ISSSUES

KPMG's member firms around the world have rolled up their sleeves, joined the fight against climate change and set an ambitious target of reducing carbon emissions by 25-percent by 2010.

In Barbados, KPMG Partner – Advisory Services, Brenda Pope, explained that firm will play its part by recycling paper, using stationery created from renewable forests and implementing energy saving methods.

We at KPMG are committed to doing all that we can to save our planet; anything we can do to fight climate change must be done since a healthy planet benefits us all,” Pope explained.

The international project is entitled ‘KPMG’s Global Green Initiative’. Chairman, KPMG International, Timothy P. Flynn, recently stated that the company plans to achieve its goal by implementing emission reduction schemes, using renewable energy and providing member firms’ employees with the information and tools they need to improve their own climate impacts both in the workplace and at home.

In addition to “measuring, reducing and reporting KPMG’s carbon footprint”, and involving employees in the quest, the member firms will also be supporting environmental projects, utilising energy-efficient buildings, finding alternatives to business travel and working with business partners and select not-for-profit organizations on verifiable and credible environmental programmes.

Globally, other businesses are recognizing the financial implications of climate change and they are working to do something about it.

Coach of leading Jamaican school’s cricket team searches for new talent - DIGICEL SCOTIABANK CRICKET EXPERIENCE ATTRACTS COACHES SCOUTING FOR TALENT

The Digicel Scotiabank Cricket Experience arrived in Jamaica with the coach of one of Jamaica’s top school cricket teams, Clive Ledgister, using the event to scout for talented young cricketers to join St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS). This prestigious cricket team has won the George Hedley Cup an impressive 21 times. STETHS has a history of producing world-class cricketers and boasts West Indies Cricketers, Jerome Taylor and Daren Powell, as former pupils.

The Digicel Scotiabank Cricket Experience (DSCE) has already visited Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago and St. Lucia where cricket fans turned out in their hundreds to join in the fun and games. The Jamaica session is no exception with cricket fans from all over the island testing out their cricket skills in the many exciting games.

The Digicel Scotiabank Cricket Experience is an excellent initiative that not only lets aspiring young cricketers enjoy the fun behind cricket, but it’s the perfect opportunity for cricket coaches to assess the talent of the young cricketers taking part in the games,” commented Clive Ledgister, Head Coach of STETHS cricket team. “I’ve seen a few talented bowlers and batsmen here today who will benefit from joining the STETHS cricket team.”

The DSCE will travel to Antigua, Barbados, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Grenada and St. Kitts & Nevis in advance of the Digicel Tests and Digicel ODIs taking place in these countries as part of the Digicel Home Series.

Bajan Restaurateur gets tough on deadbeats - uses Facebook to expose culprits

I am a member of MySpace, Hi5, Multiply, Bebo, Ringo, Friendster as well as the new incarnation - Facebook. I have seen local events be they musical or culinary promoted through the services, but it is the first time I found the network solutions used this way, this new item is from management from the ever-lovin' Ackee Tree restaurant who is also a sister company to Martyn Blue-Bench Bar in Hastings, Ch Ch -

ALL O/S TABS HAVE UNTIL THE 16TH MAY TO BE SETTLED OR ARRANGEMENTS TO BE MADE FOR SETTLING THEM.

NAMES WILL BE POSTED ON FACEBOOK & IN THE BAR WITH O/S AMOUNT ON THE 15TH IF NOT HEARD FROM BY THEN.

THE NAMES WILL THEN BE PASSED TO COLLECTION AGENCIES ON THE 16TH MAY EITHER DROP ME A LINE OR GIVE ME A CALL IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF YOUR TAB.
I mean like in the next segment you'll see what the bills accumulated to, damn, what were them folks up to? Guzzling Champagne or Blue Label Whiskey at Happy Hour? As I say, it even went further -

And disappointed I am that so many have not responded and I am still with over $10K in tabs outstanding.

Few have settled in full, some in part and some even call and promised but there are those that still have not done anything to address their tabs but frequent other establishments claiming that they are not out much anymore. FACEBOOK CAPTURES ALL.

I have emailed them, text messaged them, left messages on their phones and I have even sent a message along to them to contact me and NOTHING.
They are those who have promised and have yet to show … the tabs are still OUTSTANDING.

The list is completed, being finalized and I now find myself in a position that I am left with no choice but to publish the names.

This will be done tomorrow so that the weekend can pass and the tongues can wag away and I urge you to contact me by either email, text or a visit to the Blue Bench before Monday morning as the collection of o/s tabs will be out of my hands. [This list is restricted to all those who have a Facebook account.]

I look forward to a peaceful resolution to ALL OUTSTANDING tabs – BAR NONE.
Um, don't a lot of similar establishments carry a sarcastic sign mentioning how Credit is dead and Cash and Carry, his children, were left to run the company? Get the drift? You think those places were just whistling "BITCH BETTA HAVE MY MONEY" or maybe they were just pissing against the wind for the hell of it?

Regardless, it'll be intriguing to see how much money was recovered and if any was used in a defamation suit...

SOUTH MALUKU REPUBLIC the sad but true history of the 'Spice Islands' [NB: Graphic scenes of Political Torture, Squeamish Advisory ]

Here is Damon Corrie, keeping the fires burning for Indigenous People's Rights, this time near Indonesia -

While I was one of 2 Indigenous representatives in the Caribbean Caucus at the Seventh Session of the recently concluded United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York (April 21-May 2 2008), I was fortunate to meet a representative of the Alifuru people and I was shocked to learn the truth from her - for we in the Caribbean also believed the deception put out by the Indonesian Government. My Alifuru friend had come to the UN to seek help for a group of her people who were sentenced recently to life imprisonment for merely showing the flag of the Republik Maluku Selatan (South Maluku Republic) which is outlawed by the Indonesian occupational forces - at a performance for the current President of Indonesia.

For anyone doubting the veracity of her story - take note of this incident, my friend had to leave the UN abruptly and we did not understand why we did not see her again - until we learned that 2 Indonesian military personnel had come to the UN looking for her... the Alifurus cannot even feel safe at the United Nations headquarters itself!

The Alifurus are the indigenous inhabitants of the Maluku archipelago - situated between the Philippines to the north and Australia to the South - just above East Timor with the Arafura (Alifuru) Sea and West Papua to the East.

The Alifurus are a semi-nomadic Melanesian tribal people that traditionally lived by hunting, fishing and the cultivation of spices.

Before the invasion by western colonialists, merchants from China and Arabia came to Maluku to trade for the spices. The legendary name of "Spice Islands". After Britain, Spain and Portugal, Holland succeeded in conquering the islands in 1599; and Maluku became part of the Dutch colonial empire: The Dutch East Indies.

With the arrival of Dutch colonialism the ancestral name of Alifuru was prohibited because it was considered 'primitive' and 'savage'.

Alifuru men were forced into the colonial army (the KNIL) while the Dutch colonialists held the trade monopoly over the spices.

Virtually the entire Alifuru population of the island of Banda was wiped out and the spice plantations burnt down - when the islanders of Banda tried to evade the spice monopoly imposed by the Dutch colonialists - and peacefully sell their production to other traders .

All resistance by the indigenous Alifurus during the Dutch colonialism were punished without mercy and the leaders publicly hanged; some of the most famous ones were Thomas Matulesy (Pattimura) and Martha Christina Tiahahu.

On December 27th 1949 Holland transferred the sovereignty of its colonial empire to the 'United States of Indonesia', a then existing federation of 16 independent states. It was not long before the most powerful federal state - the Indonesia Republic, abolished by force the Federation and replaced Dutch colonialism with Indonesian neo-Colonialism.

Aware of the imminent danger and conscious of the then Indonesian criminal President Sukarno's lust for expansionism, the Alifuru people demanded their own Maluku government take immediate steps to safeguard their freedom and right of self-determination; thus on April 25th 1950 - the Republik Maluku Selatan was proclaimed Independent.

This proclamation of Independence was in full conformity with the international Agreements that were signed between the Dutch Government and all parties concerned - and to which the United Nations was a co-signatory.

The peaceful existence of the Republik Maluku Selatan (RMS) was abruptly violated with the naked aggression of the Indonesian Army... and this was immediately followed by a total blockade of the Maluku islands - assisted by Dutch naval vessels.

Four months after the RMS Independence the Republik Indonesia proclaimed the Unitarian State of Indonesia on August 17th 1950.

The Alifuru People's war in maluku against the illegal Indonesian annexation and occupation lasted 10 years before it evolved into an underground guerrilla warfare due to the naval blockade. The Alifuru people are still fighting for their freedom and rightful place among the sovereign states of the world.

The Indonesian oppression is omnipresent in Maluku and continues to seize every opportunity to eradicate physically, mentally and psychologically - the Alifuru People's continued existence.

In 1999 Indonesia provoked a war in Maluku and labelled it a 'religious war' between Christians and Muslim Moluccans. While the world media was digesting the bogus Indonesian 'religious war' cover story, Indonesian military troops engaged in full-scale war in Maluku. In 2000 the Indonesian commander of the Laskar Jihad Forces (Jafar Umar Talib) declared a 'holy war' against Maluku.

They invaded Maluku with thousands of Jihad fighters and more than 40,000 Alifuru people were killed by them in a four year murderous rampage.

The Laskar Jihad abolished itself in 2004 to evade the international attention that was finally being focused on the truth behind the conflict. The Indonesian military is still an occupying power in Maluku.

David Thompson Administration shows interest in all forms of Calypso - Patrick Manning regime ignores own culture

Why is there a perpetual situation where "a prophet" has no fame or respect where his navel-string was laid forth? Fellow blogger and Bajan-Canadian jdid sent me a really fascinating bit of news - Barbados is intent on buying Trinidadian musical history and culture since their own Gov't couldn't be bored! This is what the cultural website had to say about the archivist, George D. Maharaj -

I now have over 5,000 original vinyl records, from 1912 to 1989, the vast majority on Calypso, with some steelband, combo and limbo music,” Maharaj says. “I also have hundreds of items of printed materials, audio tapes, video tapes, photographs, posters and artifacts on Calypso.”

He [says] as far as he knows, there are only four vinyl discs of Calypso recordings that he does not own, and he has a pretty good idea where to find these to complete his collection.

It is this archive that Maharaj is now talking about selling to the National Library of Barbados.
How is it that two administrations in Maharaj's own homeland can show such apathy? The researcher has a first volume tracing the origins of Trinidad's musical history and now he is on his way into a second edition, with copious amounts of evidence backing his studies -
As early as 1987, I approached the National Alliance for Reconstruction government to start to preserve the art form, but before they attended to my cry they dismantled [were voted out of office] and never addressed my proposals,” he writes. I next approached the United National Congress government about the same proposal and had meetings with the culture, tourism, information, housing, [and] local government ministries and the Prime Minister.”

He says that “no one seemed to care.”

In 2001, I decided to tackle the People’s National Movement government about the same project,” Maharaj says. “I had written communications with the Prime Minister, Culture Minister, Information Minister, Tourism Ministry and many other ministers but, again, no interest to date.”

He even “produced a business plan for the establishment of a calypso museum and research centre,” but it was “all in vain.”

In 2004 Maharaj published Volume One of his study The Roots of Calypso, and sold 4,000 copies worldwide. Launched in Toronto, it was subsequently launched in both Trinidad and Tobago, was accepted into the local school library system, endorsed by virtually every living Calypsonian, at home and abroad, and Maharaj received an enthusiastic letter from President George Maxwell Richards.

Yet Trinidad and Tobago is no nearer to the creation of a Museum or Centre for preserving its Calypso history, and Maharaj now despairs of any such activity.

I have been collecting Calypso records, and doing Calypso research, since 1980,” he told Pride News Magazine. “I can safely say that I possess one of the -- if not the -- largest Calypso collections in the world.”

The oldest recording is one from 1912, made by Jules Simms, who was what was then known as a “Chantwell Singer.”

However Barbados' DLP may be recalled for ruling here in five years hence, at least they would have done something for Caribbean culture and its history, but it is not enough to acquire the material, it must be carefully stored and preserved - that's more money too, folks.

Barbadian music website launches online contest in St Lawrence this week

At The Tree-Top, Café Jungles, St. Lawrence Gap, on Thursday 22nd May 2008 at 7:00 p.m Got Rhythm Inc will create history by producing the Caribbean’s first ever Online eSOCA Competition. This competition that was conceptualized by Director George Thomas is slated to become a novelty not only in Barbados but throughout the Caribbean by becoming an annual feature of all carnivals in neighboring territories.

The aim of the competition is to continue the long tradition of celebrating and highlighting Caribbean Soca Music. Got Rhythm.Com intends to approach the market differently to ensure that artists are marketed internationally. The fact that artistes are mastering the art of performing, becoming more professional, and searching for new forums to showcase their talents whilst reaping profitable rewards created a niche that Got Rhythm.Com sought to fill by implementing this competition.

The line between different kinds of Soca music is becoming less and less clearly defined. It can sometimes be very difficult and controversial to pin-point what is Groovy, Power, or Ragga soca. There is so much fusion taking place that it is often difficult to tell whether a song is really a Soca song. It is due to these reasons that this competition is open to any sub-genre of calypso music.

The competition, which runs from May 19th – August 9th, and is all open to all Caribbean territories. Artists can enter as many songs released in 2008. Voting closes at Midnight on August 9th. Winners will be determined via online downloads from www.gotrhythm.com. The Artist that sings the song with the most downloads wins $5000.00, Second place wins $2500, third place $1250 and the producer who produced the winning song with the most downloads walks away with $1000. Consumers can look forward to weekly prizes of posters, t-shirts, caps, mp3 players and much more.

There will be a dedicated eSOCA COMPETITION page on www.gotrhythm.com where Artists and Fans can track the progress of the competition and the fortunes of each artist by logging on to the new look GotRhythm site.

Got Rhythm Inc has also organized the filming of The Got Rhythm.Com eSOCA Countdown which will highlight the artists and where fans ask their favourite soca artistes almost anything they wish.

Due to the number of entries and standard of talent it is expected that the Got Rhythm.Com eSoca Competition will be one of the biggest and most adventurous competitions ever.

A Preview Chapter of "The Climax" by Allison Hobbs [NC-17: Graphic Situations, etc.]

Kai regained consciousness inside the prison infirmary. She was handcuffed, which wasn’t surprising, but to her astonishment, she lay atop an examining table, naked beneath a coarse white sheet. The handcuffs were painfully tight and she had no idea why she needed to be naked in order to have her jaw examined. Still, Kai appreciated being spared the horror of being thrown like a piece of meat into a cage with the Taffy. Taffy was the most horrible inmate in women’s prison. She’d broken Kai’s jaw and had and forced her to perform oral sex on her unwashed vagina. After that horrific experience, Kai was exceedingly grateful to finally receive the medical attention she desperately needed—and thankful to be out of Taffy’s reach.
A rotund figure wearing a white lab jacket entered the room. “Oh, great. You finally decide to wake up,” said an annoyed, pudgy, man, whom Kai assumed was the staff doctor. He was totally gross-looking with greasy, thinning, dark gray hair that was pulled back into a ridiculous ponytail. “My shift is almost over, but I suppose I have time to give you a quick pelvic exam.” The doctor gave a long, tired sigh.
Pelvic exam! Kai gawked at the doctor in alarm. Her eyes darted about anxiously. Frantic, she blubbered unintelligibly, trying to convey that she didn’t need a pelvic exam; she had a broken jaw, dammit. Couldn’t the quack of a doctor see that her face was swollen? What the hell was wrong with the idiot?
Ignoring Kai’s expression and murmurs of panic, the doctor flung off the top sheet, revealing Kai’s luscious nude body. That single action caused the overweight man to breathe heavily. His blotchy, hanging jowls shook. His belly, which hung over his belt, quivered considerably. Looking like an ill-tempered Santa, the doctor peered at Kai with intense blue eyes and then patted her mons pubis. “Spread your legs,” he told her in a grumpy voice.
With a broken jaw, she couldn’t speak. Slowly and determinedly, Kai tried her best to communicate her problem, but the doctor didn’t even make an attempt to decipher the gibberish that spilled from her lips.
Without bothering to snap on a pair of surgical gloves, the doctor squeezed lubricant into the palm of his bare hand. With his other hand, he tapped Kai’s kneecap, continuing his unreasonable insistence that Kai spread her legs. “I guess it’s hard on you girls to have to go so long without having sex with a real man,” the fat doctor said, his expression and tone, illogically sympathetic. “I guess I’m pretty much the only male you girls can legitimately have any type of sexual contact with.”
“Now, spread your legs,” he repeated, irritably.
Kai wanted to cry. But deciding an abusive pelvic exam preferable to having to deal with a pack of bloodthirsty inmates, Kai parted her thighs for the perverted prison doctor.
The doctor inserted a well-lubricated finger. Though Kai was completely appalled by the loathsome physician, an unexpected moan escaped her lip after the gross-looking doctor inserted his thick finger, twisting and snaking it inside her vagina, giving her unexpected, immense pleasure. The incredible sensation of his undulating finger served as a temporary painkiller for the prolonged aching that emanated from her lower jaw.
Unable to help herself, Kai rode the doctor’s finger. She clenched her walls around it as if it were an erect penis. Fully aroused and dripping, she lifted her hips to take in more of his middle finger. Moaning, she thrust forward encouraging the doctor to drive his chubby digit in all the way to the hilt.
The doctor’s paunchy jowls and belly shook as he pounded Kai with his finger. He perspired and panted as if he were giving Kai hard sexual penetration. “You dirty prison sluts are so sneaky. You pretend to be sick so you can get in my examining room just so you can suck my cock. Is that what you want to do?” he demanded as he gave Kai another hard finger thrust.
Unable to speak, and inexplicably aroused even more by the doctor’s obscene insults, Kai could only grunt in response. She arched her back and shuddered as knives of pleasure ripped through her.
The doctor hastily withdrew his finger while Kai was still in the throes of an orgasm. She could have smacked his puffy face for that.
He sniffed the finger that glistened from Kai’s secretions. “Smells clean, but I can’t take any chances. You could be afflicted with genital warts or herpes. And your mouth . . . well, let’s just say that orifice can be as germ-ridden as a filthy vagina.
“Guard!” the doctor bellowed.
A stone-faced CO whom Kai had never seen and who apparently had been waiting in the corridor, hurried inside the examining room.
“Unlock the cuffs.”
The guard cut a suspicious glance at Kai.
“It’s okay. She’s not going to give me any trouble,” the doctor assured the correctional officer.
The tall, black man walked across the small room. He had ordinary facial features, but an extraordinary physique. He appraised Kai’s naked body with unmasked lust before he unlocked the handcuffs. Kai had considered grunting out an S.O.S. to the correctional officer, but judging by the brazen, lingering look, the man gave her, it was clear that he and the doctor were in cahoots.
“I’ll call you when I’m done,” the doctor told the correctional officer. At the doctor’s orders, the CO left the room.
At the sound of the closing door, the doctor quickly unzipped his pants and released his rigid appendage. Pre-cum bubbled out of the tip. “He’s ready.” His words were accompanied by rapid, lustful breaths. He was breathing so hard, Kai thought the stout doctor was in the throes of a massive heart attack.
“Use your hand,” the doctor panted. “Lube it up,” he told Kai in gasping breaths as he reached for a container of moisturizing lubrication. “Work him over good.” The doctor glided his own hand over his shaft, his eyes glinting in lustful expectation.
It only took a few squishy strokes to get the doctor off. Just before he spurted out cum over Kai’s closed fist, the doctor’s eyelids fluttered; his eyes actually rolled to the back of his head. What a loathsome degenerate!
“By the way, I examined your jaw while you were knocked out. It’s dislocated. I guess you hit that concrete floor pretty hard,” he said, knowingly. “You’re lucky it wasn’t fractured or broken. Since you girls love to do each other such bodily harm, instead of bringing you here for treatment, the state should throw you all in a pit and let you battle to the death. Like the gladiators,” he said with a chuckle.
Kai’s attitude toward the doctor quickly changed from disgust to appreciation when he said, “Sit still so I can reposition your jaw. Firmly, he held the mandible on both sides pushing gently downward and rocking backwards until a loud popping sound indicated Kai’s jaw was back in its proper position. “There you go. You’re as good as new,” he told Kai cheerfully.
Surprisingly, Kai could open and close her mouth with ease.
“Thank you!” she said earnestly, appreciative that she no longer had to grunt like an animal when she attempted to communicate. The sound of her clearly enunciated words was music to her ears.
“No point in keeping you overnight. I’ll let the guard escort you back to your cell.”
Kai’s expression of elation shifted to sheer panic. She had no desire to go back to the cell block. She was in no hurry to be mauled by Taffy and company. In fact, now that Kai was out of pain and could think straight, she intended to stay in the safety of the infirmary for as long as possible.
“But my face . . . it’s still swollen. And it hurts,” she complained, rubbing her swollen cheek.
“We can apply an ice pack for an hour or so. But I can’t keep you here much longer than that.”
“Guard!” the doctor bellowed again. The buff correctional officer materialized in an instant. Checking the time, the doctor looked down at his wrist. “I’m allowing the patient to apply an ice pack to her injury. Escort her back to her cell in an hour.” The doctor hastily retrieved an ice pack from a small refrigerator and tossed it to Kai.
“Sure thing, doc,” the correctional officer said to the staff doctor’s quickly retreating back.

ANTIGUAN BILLIONAIRE TAKES ISSUE WITH UK DAILY - Stanford 20/20 Restates Commitment To Funding Development Programme For Regional Boards

Stanford 20/20 noted with interest a recent article in the Sunday Telegraph which made certain claims with regard to funding for the territorial boards which participate in the Stanford 20/20 Tournament.

The article contains gross inaccuracies and Stanford 20/20 wishes to clarify these and let the facts be known as follows:

1. In the initial year of funding each territorial board received US$100,000 as start up money in order to prepare their players and upgrade their facilities.

2. Following this each territorial board received US$180,000 for the year (US$15,000 per month) as part of the Stanford 20/20 development programme.

3. At the Stanford 20/20 Board Meeting in November 2007 a decision was taken by the Board to suspend the funding as outlined in 2 above as a result of a lack of accountability by some of the territorial boards.

4. At the Stanford 20/20 Board Meeting in March 2008 a decision was taken by the Board to resume funding by way of a restructured disbursement scheme in order to ensure a higher level of accountability.

5. In March of 2008 representatives of all the territorial boards were flown to St Croix in the United States Virgin Islands in order to discuss with them the status of their funding. The President of Stanford 20/20 Andrea Stoelker and other representatives of Stanford 20/20, Merlice Charles and Natasha Flynn-Lewis, outlined to the representatives of the territorial boards the reviewed scheme for the disbursement of funds whereby each territorial board will submit their bills to Stanford 20/20 and those bills will be paid directly by Stanford 20/20 not exceeding US$15,000 per month.

6. There are some territorial boards which currently do not have their accounts in a satisfactory manner. Once a satisfactory level of accountability is achieved for funds already disbursed to them then the funding will continue under the new disbursement scheme as outlined in 5 above.

Stanford 20/20 remains committed to the development and resurgence of West Indies cricket on the international stage. Sir Allen Stanford and the legends on the Stanford 20/20 Board of Directors have never wavered in their dedication to ensuring that West Indies cricket rises from the regrettable state it has reached.

Further Sir Allen and the legends continue to work tirelessly to ensure that this is achieved with urgency and Sir Allen has already dedicated in excess of US$80M towards this.

Finally Sir Allen and the legends are constantly exploring new, creative and innovative ways in ensuring that West Indies cricket remains acutely relevant and a force to be reckoned with on the world stage. To this end Sir Allen in conjunction with the West Indies Cricket Board will shortly announce some exciting initiatives which are guaranteed to have the eyes of the cricketing world firmly focussed on the West Indies.

MASALA'S LEAD SINGER AS SOLO ARTIST CONTINUES TO REAP SUCCESS

Philip 7 of the band Masala has become a household name in his own Barbados. His first solo single "Beautiful Surprise" has become the wedding anthem for many and propelled Philip to stardom. The song earned him the 2008 Barbados Music Award for Best Rock/Alternative Artiste and continues to receive heavy rotation on local, regional and international airwaves.

Philip teamed up once again with internationally acclaimed producer Derek Brin and songwriter Rupert Gayle to create his latest single "Silence Me".

This new track which is laced with eerie piano melodies, interesting synthesizer and drum patterns, also contains an influence of hip-hop and is positioned for mass global appeal.

Co-written by Derek, Rupert and Philip himself, "Silence Me" is a departure from the upbeat lyrics and tone of "Beautiful Surprise", but displays the versatility and range of Philip as a singer.

EARTHRACE UPDATES: PANAMA, MEXICO, & SAN DIEGO

Everybody's favorite ecologically-sound trimaran has been very busy the last few days, we catch up on its travels now -

The Earthrace eco-boat has successfully avoided delay in its attempt to beat the round the world speed record and completed its transit through the Panama Canal.

The Panama Canal Authority ensured a swift journey through the canal for Earthrace, which completed its 12 hour transit at 2030hrs on Saturday (10 May). The boat then moored at Rodman's Dock awaiting refuelling on Sunday morning, as local licensing restrictions forbid refuelling during the night.

The intrepid crew continued through Latin America -

Earthrace is speeding up the western coast of Mexico en route to Manzanillo as it continues to gain on the current round-the-world speed record for a powerboat.

Earthrace is a 24m tri-hull wavepiercer that is currently attempting to smash the world record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe, running renewable biodiesel fuel, and with a net zero carbon footprint.

Skipper Pete Bethune and his crew are currently 513 nautical miles ahead of the pace set by the round-the-world record-holder, Cable and Wireless, in 1998. The crew is making up for lost time waiting for a transit through the Panama Canal at the weekend.

The team persistently pursue the Pacific with a passenger -
Earthrace, the world’s fastest eco-boat, thundered into San Diego on Friday 16 May, as it stopped for refuelling as part of its attempt to break the round-the-world speed record for a powerboat.

Skipper Pete Bethune and his crew are currently over 800 nautical miles ahead of Cable and Wireless' decade-old record. The 24,000 nautical mile route has so far taken in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and the crew has already overcome obstacles such as missing fuel shipments and a huge backlog of traffic in the Panama Canal.

Bethune's crew consists of a special guest member for each leg, and 36 year-old John Sheetz from San Clemente, CA, will be joining Earthrace for the San Diego to Hawaii stretch.

John Sheetz is a retired Lt. Commander in the US Navy Reserve and a former US Coast Guard. He co-founded Applied Information Technology (AIT), a company involved in developing solutions to improve environmental concerns. John was scheduled to make the Atlantic crossing with the Earthrace team in 2007, during its first world record attempt, before it was called off. He will replace Guillermo Woodward Rojas, a shipping agent from Mexico, who joined the crew at Manzanillo.

Earthrace has completed six from a baker's dozen of stops across the planet, stay tuned to Bajan Reporter to see if they burst C&W's ten year old record!

Gambian charged for stabbing Barbados - what will Africans name their children next?

Crime is everywhere you go and so is Barbados in one form or another... I was Googling today and this one popped up where a stabbing in Gambia over cement led to an assault charge -

Kawsu Jallow, a youth at Lamin Village, Kombo North, was on Monday paraded before senior magistrate EF M'Bai of the Brikama Magistrates Court, on charges of unlawful and wilful assault. Kawsu was accused of stabbing one Alagie Ndow with a broken bottle, leading to severe injuries.

The incident was said to have occurred in March, this year, when the duo were returning home after collecting their payment for making cement blocks for a man called Barbados. But Kawsu denied the allegation preferred against him when the charge sheet was read to him.

Narrating the facts before the court, police prosecutor Cpl 413 Sanyang disclosed that on the day of the incident, the duo had already collected their payment from Barbados for moulding cement blocks for him. Sanyang added that Barbados gave them only D200 of the D600 owed to them, which he said was received by the complainant.

Cpl Sanyang said Kawsu later requested for the money to be shared on their way home, but that Alagie had refused, putting it to him that he had not been coming to work for two days. He said Kawsu insisted for the money to be shared equally, but the complainant told him to wait until the balance was paid, resulting to a bitter brawl, and Kawsu stabbing the complainant on his back with a broken bottle.
Yee-OUCH, that case has now been adjourned until the 26th of this month...

ARMED WOMAN JACKS TEENAGE BOY: ONLY IN BELIZE?

It's been a while since Bajan Reporter visited Belize - their Channel 7 web service has improved dramatically, as a result we have this crime story where women appear to be seeking equal rights -

When you hear on the news that someone has been robbed at gunpoint, it’s almost automatic to assume that the perpetrator is a young man. But around eleven [earlier this week] it was a woman who pulled a gun to rob a sixteen year old boy.

The teenaged victim was selling vegetables from a bicycle cart on Faber’s Road when the woman – who was accompanied by two men - pulled a black firearm from her pants waist and placed it to his forehead while one of her accomplice held him and the other hit him in his stomach and back.

The minor says the woman then searched his front pants pocket and took one hundred and five dollars that was on him. All three suspects then jumped onto separate bicycles and rode off towards Faber’s Road Extension. Belize City Police say they have one man detained and are now looking for the woman and another man.

When they say it's a bitch to be robbed, that teenager could testify to that for sure!

Barbadian becomes CEO of Nevis Tourism Authority

A new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has been appointed to head the Nevis Tourism authority (NTA). Selected was Barbadian-born, Mrs. Garcia Thompson-Hendrickson who took up her office effective May 1st 2008.

During a brief introduction and welcome ceremony at the NTA's boardroom in Charlestown, Premier of Nevis and its Minister of Tourism the Hon. Joseph Parry said the appointment came at a time when the island was seeking to consolidate its position in the high end tourism market.

We [NIA] are working very hard to have another hotel to match the Four Seasons, another hotel that would further establish our place in the marketplace as an outstanding destination. We are looking at a new effort towards cruise tourism, we are also happy that we can have a new beginning in the person of Mrs. Garcia Thompson-Hendrickson.

We welcome you and we anticipate that you’ll make a difference working along with the Marketing Division, and all the other members of staff that we have here and also members of the Board. I predict very exciting times ahead and I hope that you’ll enjoy the challenges that will face you over the next few years. Welcome and may you enjoy Nevis and may we be able to say at the end of two years that a change has taken place,” he said.

Members of the Board of the Nevis Tourism Authority and staff welcomed the new CEO who thanked the government and people of Nevis for having considered and afforded her the opportunity to serve at that level.

I thank the Premier and the people of Nevis, the Nevis Tourism Board. We have a very good product so it makes it easy for me to sell the product. I look forward to working with the Tourism Authority and I already recognise that I have a very strong and supportive team in-house. I thank you again for this opportunity and I will endeavor to give of my best to the organisation to make both Nevis and Barbados proud,” the new Tourism CEO said.

Mrs. Thompson-Hendrickson took over from Mrs. Helen Kidd who resigned the position at the end of 2007.

Profit from a brand-name hotel development - Canadian Investor claims answers unfold at Dining Club this weekend [SHAMELESS PLUG]

According to Canadian investor Bob Verdun, in Barbados' Parliament, in constituency meetings, in the shops, and at the domino tables, Bajans are saying that condo development has gone seriously wrong! Instead of enhancing windows to the sea and improving beach access, condo developers have thrown up massive concrete structures that shut Bajans out of their own birthright.

Hotel rooms are disappearing, and there are too few hotel brand names to attract new visitors. Verdun is of the view that the new Government is committed to change. It wants to rebuild the stock of hotel rooms; it wants brand names; and, most important, it wants Bajans to have a meaningful piece of the action.

Can these goals be achieved? Yes! But only if middle-class Bajans move from being mere savers to becoming effective investors. Bob Verdun is now offering a first project -- and it is truly a BOLD one. He claims that every dollar invested now, should return $3.50 in less than three years' time, based on a proven, conservative business model. Nine months ago, about 100 Bajans expressed strong support for the Barbadians' Own Land Development (BOLD) Company.

ECONOMIC EMANCIPATION

On August 4, 2007, about 100 middle-class Bajans attended a public meeting to express their enthusiasm for Economic Emancipation. They strongly endorsed the concept that the majority population of Barbados should be able to earn solid investment returns from land development projects that are good for this island.

Nine months later, this “baby” is ready to be born. After careful research, the leaders are ready to unveil their first project – truly a BOLD one, as it should be for the Barbadians’ Own Land Development Company.

On a prominent site near the University of the West Indies, convenient to Batt's Rock Beach, plans are well advanced to bring the World’s Largest Hotel Chain to Barbados – using a business concept that allows middle-class Bajans to own and control the hotel, with 100% Bajan management. Please join us at 10:00am this Saturday, May 17, at the Dining Club to learn more.

The Best Western University Towers All-Suites Hotel will set a new standard for tourism and business services in Barbados. The development will feature state-of-the-art environmental protection and energy conservation, and its site will be beautifully landscaped with a maximum of public facilities and open space for Barbadians to enjoy.

LOCAL PEOPLE BENEFIT

Best Western is a unique organization, very similar to a co-operative. It has no corporate-owned hotels and no foreign-based management teams. It works strictly with local investors, who hire their own qualified local managers. Best Western provides outstanding training and support, along with powerful marketing, allowing local people to earn the benefits.

The typical brand-name hotel consumes 10% to 15% of total revenues, but the cost of the Best Western brand is typically only 3% of revenues – and almost all of that goes into marketing services, so it is more investment than cost.

The business plan for the Best Western University Towers All-Suites Hotel will allow the majority population of Barbados to participate in two ways: as shareholders in the BOLD Company and as owners of the individual hotel suites.

The business plan allows everyone to earn a reasonable return – while setting an example for future tourism development to be publicly accessible, locally managed, and open for all Bajans to profit by investing.

STRONG ENDORSEMENT

Mark Williams, Best Western's Vice-President for Development for North America and the Caribbean, recently completed a visit to Barbados that included a meeting with Tourism Minister Richard Sealy and his team. Mr. Williams determined that the University Towers site and concept are ideal for Best Western, a brand that is keen to expand in the Caribbean.

Best Western has the largest number of hotels in the world, including Britain. Thus, tourists from Barbados’s largest market are very familiar with the excellent value and high quality that they can expect at a Best Western hotel.

Of course, Americans and Canadians are strong supporters of this brand, which has its main offices in Phoenix, Arizona, and Toronto, Ontario.

At his departure for the tourism investment conference in Trinidad, Mr. Williams described his visit to Barbados as one of the most productive development tours he had ever experienced.

THE ACTION PLAN

Everyone is welcome – Saturday, May 17, 2008 – at the Dining Club (in the Manor Lodge complex) at 10:00am to learn more about this project and how Bajans can profit from investing in the Best Western University Towers All-Suites Hotel.

'DIGICEL EXTRA COVER' CRICKET TV SHOW PROVES ON THE BALL

The ‘Digicel Extra Cover’ exclusive television show returns to the regional screen on May 23rd for the upcoming Digicel Series of West Indies against Australia. During the Sri Lanka Series the show proved to be clued-in to the action as it was the source of many correct predictions from some of the greatest legends of the game.

The 30 minute Show which made its debut for the West Indies vs Sri Lanka Digicel Series is broadcast in some 23 territories, hosted by sportscaster Barry Wilkinson and features a host of former and present stars of the cricket world. The winning format will remain for the upcoming Digicel Series against World Champions Australia.

Only in the first ‘Digicel Extra Cover’ series, observations from one of the most successful spin bowlers in Test cricket history Lance Gibbs, on the need for Windies spinner, Sulieman Benn to give the ball more flight and variation, was seen as a bold prediction that bore out.

The prediction of the Great Sir Garfield Sobers that following the first Digicel test West Indies would win the Digicel Series against Sri Lanka, also proved to be on the ball.

Views of past Windies captain, Richie Richardson, who said before the Digicel series that he didn't believe Sri Lanka were strong enough a team to beat the West Indies on home turf was also correct and provided great inspiration to the team and fans.

While the praise of former player, Philo Wallace, for Shivnarine Chanderpaul who he believes deserves to be in the top ranking of West Indies players for his consistent strong performance, showed to be very valuable by the end of the Sri Lankan series.

We’ve had a fantastic line up of commentators and special guests for the Sri Lanka run of theDigicel Extra Covershow and we are planning equally exciting shows for the Digicel Series against Australia” said host Barry Wilkinson. “The show also allows fans to get a chance to share their views, have their say and even vent their frustrations which has also led to some colourful commentary!

The Digicel show which is running for 13 episodes in total also includes footage from the various matches, along with the action from the Digicel Scotiabank Cricket Experience. The show also features exclusive interviews with players from both teams as well as video diaries from select Windies players.

CEZAR TAKES JAMAICAN MUSIC TO A NEW FAN BASE - GERMAN MIXERS HELP IN ADDING VIEWERS ON YOUTUBE

It was the dance remix of Bob Marley's Sun is Shining in 1999 that brought a positive reggae message to the attention of a new age of young club goers and now in 2008 Cezar is doing the same. Under the direction of his new management RHH Music Corp., Cezar's award winning single Keep On has now been remixed by German house music production duo Peter Spencer and Josh Hill aka Spencer & Hill, transforming Cezar's pure reggae message into a Reggae Electro remix and new club sensation.

Rodney Hill, CEO of RHH Music Corp. and Cezar's manager, explains the rationale behind the remix: "This remix opens the door to having a reggae soul artist heard in house clubs throughout the world where at any given time there are thousands of clubbers, creating a new fan base. The sky is now the limit for Cezar."

The remix was commissioned by Ultra Records, a leading independent electronic label based in New York, who bought the licence for the original reggae version in 2007. The original reggae version of Keep On, written by Cezar and produced by David Kennedy, caught the attention of Ultra Records after copping 2nd place at the International Song Writing Competition in May of 2007.

With nearly 15,000 hits on YouTube in just 2 months, the remixed track has been getting incredible attention internationally not just because of the club appeal but also because of the international message. With lyrics like: "You just got to keep on trying, and keep doing the best with the hand that you get. Don't give up that fight! You can't stop you can't weep, can't keep on crying. Keep doing your best you know life is a test. It's gonna be alright!" Keep On is an uplifting anthem of perseverance, hope and 'active optimism'.

Keep On, an ideology for all ages, has now been remixed to attract a new Electro Reggae fan base, taking Jamaican music and its positive message to a new generation of music listeners and club goers. The remixed single has already been receiving heavy club rotation in the US and Europe especially making a sensation in Russia, Hungary and Brazil.

{UPDATED} Fried Pram-Pram - from CBC to CMC then at CWC: The journey that was Terry Mayers (RIP: 1967 -2008)

"All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated...As therefore the bell that rings to a sermon, calls not upon the preacher only, but upon the congregation to come: so this bell calls us all: but how much more me, who am brought so near the door by this sickness....No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."
- John Donne, Meditation XVII - British Poet/Philosopher
{Ed's Note: My thanks to those who nudged this article in the right direction, I appreciate muchly, as one of Terry's teachers - Mac Fingall - would say}
I do not understand, I can not understand - I am baffled and ensorrowed at the loss of a good and worthy media personality at the peak of his flow. Terry Mayers did not even live to see his 41st birthday! T.J. (Terence Jr) is little son is not even one yet, as far as I know. Barely married two years, damn.

We would disagree yet remain fiercely loyal brothers-in-arms watching each other's backs - he holding for Lodge Secondary while I always sought to brag for Kolij (Harrison College). His humour was so unique yet so easy to understand - one night during the Evening News just before the C&W Sports World began they jumped to a shot of him readying on the set during a commercial break!

When they really started that segment of the EN, he just winked and said he was peeping to make sure you were there. I also used a variation of that line when they botched the Headlines one night and the Newsroom Management got vex at me, Terry saw me about to lose my cool and he said to me that I was performing copyright infringement and that is why there's an Inquisition. Everyone laughed and the tension broke.

He later said to chill as I have to accept that for whatever reasons were about, anything I do was a problem - even if it had a precedent like his remark! As I said, we'd look out for each other...

He spent 15 years at CBC, starting as an announcer and worked his way to Asst Director Of Sports; therefore, when he took the voluntary separation package from CBC, it was a shock to many there at the time, yet I privately cheered him on like he was Andy in Shawshank Redemption and I was one of of the lifers who wished I was heading for Zihuatanejo but wondered if I really had the balls (I did, but that's not for here right now).

Although he freelanced at CMC, he started a video production company called Amaya, I asked him about the name and he said (back then) if he had a daughter that is what he'd call her. Amaya Productions was a ninja, it got into Grenada and Caymans after Hurricane Ivan when most were turned away, folk still dunno how he did 'em. His first full-length feature was a very well researched interview in Colorado, USA with Professor Bill Gray of the University of Colorado in 2005 about that year's windy season for this region, I recall it as it ran the following year after Sept. '04's Hurricane Ivan!

Then he got a cushy post with the Barbados LOC of the Cricket World Cup as their Corporate Communications Mgr, and he was very aggressive in ensuring Barbados was ready for the game (Terry did his part, as for everyone else, that is another forum), even so far as getting in the van and doing loudspeaker PSA notices all over the island. He was a coach with the Barbados Team for the International Senior Games. The next position he recently assumed was PRO with the Barbados Olympic Association.

The man did not partake of booze, could stand in a rumshop for hours and not even smell a beer-cap; he ran like the wind - sometimes from CBC to home when he was out Graeme Hall side; played golf with Sir Garry and his cricket fascination and involvement is legendary.

I saw him Monday last week at QEH's Intensive Care Unit, he did not see me - he was unconscious and hooked up to a massive barrage of machines. As I left, I made sure to knock my fist against his knuckles.

Rather than finish sad, let me regale you with one of his finer jokes, as best as I can recall...

A rastaman was out of work for so long he got annoyed and decided to create a job for himself. He got a wheelbarrow with a large steel dish and had these small breadcrumb-encrusted patties resting on the metal plate, people just look at them as he'd bellow;-

"FRIED PRAM-PRAM, $2 FOR 3 CAKES! EASY TO MAKE, EASY TO BAKE! CHANGES YOUR PULSE, INCREASES YOUR INTELLIGENCE AND STRAIGHTENS YOUR HAIR! TWO DOLLAR FOR THREE CAKES, TRY MY FRIED PRAM-PRAM NOW!"

Finally, one of the villagers got a dose of courage and tried out the new delicacy, but soon wrinkled his face...

"My Gad, this taste like s**t!"

The dread smiled and responded, "Increases your intelligence!"

The man looked at him and his eyes went wide as he gasped, the rasta - not missing a beat - added, "Changes you pulse, nuh?"

Sure enough, with full realisation the man's hair stood on end, while the rasta quickly ran off bellowing -

"FRIED PRAM-PRAM, $2 FOR 3 CAKES! EASY TO MAKE, EASY TO BAKE! CHANGES YOUR PULSE, INCREASES YOUR INTELLIGENCE AND STRAIGHTENS YOUR HAIR! TWO DOLLAR FOR THREE CAKES, TRY MY FRIED PRAM-PRAM NOW!"

Jamaican Cuisine & Dhal Roti Skins - update on Barbadian restaurant scene

Well, it must be fairly well known by now that Barbados has not really had a truly local restaurant critique - ever! In the sense that no one is brutally honest enough to say if it's bad then is awful or if it's good but here a few pitfalls to avoid, etc. When CBC ran a feature, they did everything but indicate how is the food, and even if they did - they usually lied as they want the places to advertise again (I was told this point-blank by some directors and presenters when I worked there)!

Until now, and wow! The last two items in this genre drew some of the most comments for the year so far...

But in an effort to maintain fairness, let's point out a few things - if a fancy place like Cliff or Brown Sugar is hoping I'll pop along and lay five stars on their crutch? The answer is only if you frontin' honey! I stick to my budget, baby! Plus? If yo' stank - then I have free reign to state so and why, DEAL?

I will occasionally pass back at the more popular locales and see if there is a need to update... Like at Big John's for instance, they have brought back dhal skins for their roti and cashiers ask you before they prepare the meal!

However, last week on Thursday around 2:00 pm? Their service was so .... S L O W, ugh!

Saturday? I decided to head back for Indian Grill at 5:00 pm but they already had their sidewalks rolled up and so missed a late sale (That is not the 1st time, it seems they close by 5:00 pm, which seems a bit dumb to me), so that's when I decided to saunter over by Kingston 10 for some Jamaican provisions, mon!

Me did ask for oxtail, with plenty plantain and stew pork with rice and pea, me wash it down with a Babylon Coke - the bill was $37.50, oy!

H O W E V E R: It was worth every penny at Kingston 10, I needed no Grace hot sauce. The pork was jerk just right and the oxtail was so deliciously rich and swimming with gravy, the plantain was sweet and tender without shredding under me knife and fork. The rice was all separate soft grains and the peas had only the merest hint of a crunch!

The service was swift and so friendly there at Pandora's Plaza, it felt as though I was there all of the time rather than November or so when I last was there!

Kingston 10's ambience has also improved, there were some Herbie Rose prints of Jamaican scenes to mull over, while customers kept rolling in and chatting with each other - advising everyone as to what to try, very cool!

Camouflage for Chelsea - UK Flower Show lulled by sounds of Bajan Reggae

While most Barbadian's will be greeting the sunrise this Monday the 19th David Kirton will be sharing the Green Camouflage at the Barbados Horticultures Societies display at The RHS Chelsea Flower Show in the UK during the press photo call.

The concept of combining the two disciplines of floral art and music will present a multi sensory ambiance filled with essences of Barbados, creating another beautiful unique display by the BHS.

This will be one of the first times a singer/songwriter will be performing at an exhibit at The Chelsea Flower Show.

One of David Kirton's strongest talents is his songwriting; his music weaves images and stories of Barbados and Caribbean life. Kirton writes his songs while submerged in nature with the east coast of Barbados being one of his most inspirational hideouts. The desire to share the indigenous lifestyle and landscape of Barbados with the world while creating an appreciation for preservation and sustainable development of the island features in many of his songs.

It is this aspect of Kirton's music that will be performed at The Chelsea Flower Show, organic, international, eco friendly and filled with beauty, love and history.

Joining David Kirton on lead guitar will be Andre Jonson, a St. Thomas musician who leads Kirton's band in Northern California. Jonson appears in Kirton's mini documentary shot while on tour with his band in the USA, 2007. The mini documentary video can be viewed on Kirton's youtube site.

Kirton will be performing at a few notable venues and promoting his music while in the UK with interviews and live performances on BBC, Choice FM and others.

This Chelsea performance will mark the launch of a promotional campaign in the UK by Bird's Eye Music, Kirton's Barbadian Record label. The Barbados Tourism Authority and Virgin Airlines are sponsoring the performance by Kirton at the Chelsea Flower show.

HEADING FOR THE UK & NEED A VISA? BETTER GET A CREDIT CARD - Changes to arrangements for issuing visas for the UK

So, all parents sending their kids to Brit Universities this year, are in for a weird surprise - you have to have a credit card! I got rid of mine to decrease debt but if I want to see UK now I'll have to borrow someone's to achieve that mission... Anyway don't take my word for it, here's the UK High Commission -

From 2 June 2008, all visas for the United Kingdom will be issued by the British Consulate General in New York. Applicants will continue to submit their applications to the British High Commission, Bridgetown, in exactly the same way as before. But applicants will be required to pay the Visa fee by internationally recognised credit card at the time of completing the online Visa Application form.

Visa applicants will need to pre-book appointments as now, and attend the British High Commission in person to submit their papers and provide the necessary biometric data. The High Commission will then forward the application and passport in individual sealed packages to the British Consulate in New York by courier service. Applicants will not be required to travel to New York.

Once a decision has been made, the British Consulate in New York will inform applicants by email, and return applications by courier to the British High Commission in Bridgetown, who will notify applicants to collect their documents. The cost of the courier charge will be borne by the United Kingdom.

Visa applicants will not incur any additional charges for this service. However, applicants will have the option to request the British Consulate General in New York to return their documents directly to them, through payment of an additional courier charge when completing their application form.

It is envisaged that straightforward applications will be returned to the British High Commission within seven working days and all applicants should expect to receive decisions within 3 weeks of dispatch of their documents to New York.

The British High Commission in Bridgetown will retain direct responsibility for issuing visas to the United Kingdom Overseas Territories.

JAH CURE MESMERISES CARIBBEAN FANS - Reggae Star dished out an hour and a half of conscious tunes, bringing many female fans to tears

Very few Jamaican artistes have the ability to bring out record crowds outside of the island and even more difficult, maintain this form year after year. This year Jah Cure has upped the ante.

Jah Cure's three country tour of the Caribbean which began in St Kitts on April 26th 2008, still
has the Eastern Caribbean and the Reggae world talking.

St Kitts Vibes Entertainment recorded recently, "Jamaican mega Reggae entertainer "Jah Cure" performed in front of the largest crowd ever at Carnival Village in St. Kitts as thousands rushed to get a glimpse of 'Cure'. Scores of cheers and applause echoed from the excited audience as Jah Cure dished out an hour and a half of conscious tunes that included True Reflections, What Will it Take, To Your Arms of Love and Longing For, bringing many female fans to tears with his timeless hits."

With a sold out concert in St Kitts behind him, Jah Cure maintained his momentum by giving a spirited performance at the Digicel Reggae on the Hill 2008 Concert in Barbados receiving three encores from a crowd of 25,000. Jah Cure continued with his message of peace and love and even won commendations from the Prime Minister of Barbados David Thompson, who confessed he was an ardent fan of the artist.

Jah Cure also broke another record this month by bringing out 18,000 fans in St Maarten at their Carnival 2008 Reggae Show. Jah Cure brought out the largest crowd ever to attend a stage show in that country and road manager Dean Dryden was overwhelmed by the response of the St Maarten fans.

"Jah Cure had four encores and to top that off brought in a record 18,000 people for the largest reggae audience ever in St Maarten," Dean Dryden, Jah Cure's Road Manager bragged, "Cure entered the stage at about 1:30 AM singing Longing For and the audience sang along word for word. Some of the ladies screamed 'Jah Cure I Love you!' with outstretched arms while the crowd rocked to his every word."

This is not the first time Jah Cure has made history; In St Lucia on November 30, 2007, the Mendo Phillip Park was at capacity with eight thousand. At 'The Next Chapter' in Trinidad on December 15th last year at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain more than 15,000 patrons came out to experience the cure. In the Turks and Caicos on December 24th, the Williams Auditorium got its largest crowd for 2007 with over four thousand patrons and over 15,000 fans came out in full force in Suriname on the 29th of December to culminate Jah Cure's Successful Year.

Jah Cure is now getting ready for his multi-country tour of Europe in June and July, which will see him visiting Germany, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Italy and many other European states.

Also look out for the release of the Journey video this month directed by Jay-Will and his Danger Zone/SoBe Entertainment "Jah, The Universal Cure" album Slated for a fourth quarter release in 2008.

INTRANSIT EXHIBITION AT B'DOS COMMUNITY COLLEGE - Art On Display too short and Speeches were too Long

This year at BCC, they have combined Fine Arts & Graphic Design to create a Portfolio exhibition called INTRANSIT held at their Morningside wing.

The introductory speeches from Principal Gladstone Best and the Minister of Education while meaning to be erudite, well-informed and entertaining had the crowd restless and bored - Bill Shakespeare's Hamlet reference on being brief was far too apt that night, one member of the media got up and walked out from the speeches to go and look at the exhibition.

It was sad to see that all CBC has done so far with the exhibit is play a small piece of the lengthy discourse from the Honourable Ronald Jones, Education Minister. They did not even show a piece of the exhibit.

Dr Best's main gist of his intro is the fact the exhibition covers three floors and runs only until the 15th and therefore encourages people to re-visit the exhibition as the time for display is so short. Why have it so brief? Did the students not deserve to have the school sponsor a month long exhibition at Sherbourne Centre (I'm not bothering with the long name, except to say Sandiford Centre from here on in - again, brevity is key!), could they not have worked a deal with some corporate entity willing to intern a graphic designer or two?

The minister's monologue made extensive references to dance and music - what bearing did this have on Visual Arts which is the purpose of INTRANSIT? Mr Jones to his credit, did add that imagination should run wild and cited that many inventions over the ages have been created as a result of using the boundless scope of the mind.

Mr Jones also noted that in his view, most humans tend to be selfish, so when an artist displays their work they're really opening themselves to the world and we should appreciate that moment of selflessness.

Twelve artists on display - not today Sunday nor tomorrow as that is a Bank Holiday - which leaves all of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday! I feel it is an insult to the students who spent not only a great deal of time preparing the work, but the very rooms where the efforts are placed for view - some students had to seek sponsorship on their own or beg/borrow/whatever from their friends & family to get their areas up to scratch.

If you don't understand the work that was done behind the scenes, ask to view the video set to Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" where Mark Brown plays the lover who returns and Kamesha Webb as the singer who rejects the jilter, they even had back-up singers a la Gladys Knight & The Pips. There was also a photo-history set to Earth, Wind & Fire's "September," those kids really gave their all!

Three days does not cut it BCC, shame on you!

Let me convince you to get out there and show your support... The highpoint for me was "Angels In Crisis" from Antiguan Mark Brown. He really needs his own website, tell him so at goldeneyez34@hotmail.com

Mark Brown's immense canvasses display angels in a manner probably not consistent with the Vatican, but have me tempted to write a story or book linking all of the pictures together in some fantastic manner!

Pregnant angels, self portrait with feathers, even a study of Michaelangelo with Caravaggio-like figures added.

The twin-canvas panorama is based on "Pieta" and would be a beautiful introduction for a collector wishing to start their own private gallery.

Danielle Archer created a new dairy product called "Holy Cow," she even says if you really like the T-Shirts from this brand then you can e-mail her at danpro.graphics@gmail.com and work out all of the details.

2gF is not a chemical nor is it a music scale, this is a music group allegedly starting a career, but in need of some slick presentations.

Enter Alex Carrington's street-extreme representation of a new hip-hop group which earned a visit from former principal Dr Norma Holder, if you think you need his touch to design a CD cover? E-mail him at lex.carrington@yahoo.com

He also created a line of feminine products for teenaged girls known as Petal, not only worth a look but some serious thought!

Another student whose work was definitely eye-catching was Sheena Rose. She has the distinction of appearing in two exhibitions at once! Her animation is also on display via video console at the Queen's Park Gallery in "Sign Of The Times" (Which will also be under review here shortly, they have a longer display time - so BCC students 1st!), that's where a dog takes her for a drive in a car and Police pull them over, LOL!

Likewise to QPG, Sheena has more monitors showing her animated representation of dreams she has experienced - one where she grew a penis over her vagina, or watching females use the Ladies room or even when she lost her two front teeth and two new blue teeth replaced those from before! Some of these digital moving pictures have also been translated to still canvas versions, if they seem rather surreal? There is a reason...

In her own words -
"My work is about dreams. Through dreams we reach into the dramatic, haunting, emotional and provocative qualities of the subconscious, and through my work try I to merge these impressions with things relating to my real life. While the work helps me discover more information about myself, it also leads to more questions and investigations."
There's also Margaret Beale's details of flora/orchids (trini_gal29@hotmail.com), and then there's Kamesha Webb's interactive environmental miniatures (mesha-kay@yahoo.com)

For the graphics side of INTRANSIT, the bomb was dropped by Shannon Kirton nee Gibbs who had some vehicles totally rad in some marine-durable vinyl appliqués making the truck and cars look totally hot!

Her Fingerprint Designs (s_kirton@caribsurf.com) will soon be incorporated into her now-hubby's KTI: Kirton's Trading Inc. and the couple already see much public and private sector potential for her customisation of vehicles.

The design even went so far as gloves, helmets and notebooks! But the main draw would have to be the off-road pickup truck with Timberland decals! I have not even touched all of the show and you see why I am annoyed there are only three days for such glory? Don't just agree with me, tell BCC too!

Reggae Star Luciano appears in Sydney: Opening Act is Bajan Reggae Headliner

"Fronted by Pat Powell and George Gill and directed by Gervais Koffi, Survival Reggae are proud and delighted to showcase the music of the all time kings of Reggae, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Third World and Steel Pulse."

This event is due about ten days from now in Australia, Bajan Reporter extends a big "THANX, MON" to Lester King for the heads up - we appreciate you're recalling this blog's search of things Bajan and coming across the Ital Baje. Anyhow, Lester says Luciano will be one of the main acts down under...

But it's our man from Bim, also known as Ital-Baje, who will do the opening act - some call it warm-up, but I dislike that term as the preceding act can be superior.

Now he's sporting a clean-shaven look. But what had me really disappointed is the fact that I missed him playing at Mojo's earlier this year!
